Sophia R. Chafin, age 10, of Marengo was welcomed into Heaven into the arms of her great-grandmother on Sunday, February 22, 2026. She was born on June 5, 2015, to Skylar T. Beveridge and Andrea "Andi" L. Chafin.
Sophia was a 4th grader at Cardington-Lincoln Elementary School. She was an active and adventurous child who loved being involved. Sophia participated in Girl Scouts, took horse riding lessons, played softball and volleyball, and even tried cheerleading. She was never afraid to give something new a try at least once.
Sophia was an animal lover through and through, and if she could have rescued every stray animal in the world, she would have. She had the best spunky personality and was loved by everyone. Sophia wanted to be a professional horse trainer when she grew up, a dream inspired by her favorite movie, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which she could watch time and time again.
She loved dancing and singing karaoke, never shy about having fun and sharing her joy. Sophia cherished her cousins and loved spending time with them. She was also an amazing big sister to her younger siblings. Once you became her friend, you were her best friend, no matter how long she had known you. Sophia was a great kid with a kind heart, a joyful spirit, and a light that truly filled every room she entered.
In addition to her mother, Andi (Kenneth CoyKendall) Chafin, Sophia is survived by her sisters Nova L. CoyKendall and Kenzleigh R. CoyKendall; her grandmother, Angie (Jimmie Huffer) Van Sickle of Mount Gilead; her grandfather, John (Debbie) Chafin Jr. of Marengo; her aunt, Danielle (Stephen) Charles of Cardington; and her cousins, Braxton Corbin, Emma Charles, Isabella Hankins, Ava Hankins, Owen Hankins, Peyton Charles, Bentley Hankins, and Wrenley Charles.
Sophia is preceded in death by her father, Skylar T. Beveridge as well as her great grandfather and great grandmother Harold and Marcella Van Sickle who continues to watch over her in heaven.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jason Martin officiating.
