Robert L. “Bob” Mermann, age 68, of Cardington died Monday evening July 15, 2019 in Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1950 in Marion to the late Joseph and Evelyn (Wilson) Mermann.
Bob was a 1969 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and had been employed at Stahl Metal Products as a welder.
Bob Mermann was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent much of his time at the Morrow County Coon Hunters Club where he was a board member for many years. He was an Ohio Hunters Education Instructor, touching many lives through the local kids and adults who participated in his courses.
Bob was an umpire for softball and baseball for many years and a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He was known as a permanent fixture at all of the local sporting events and Cardington softballs’ biggest cheerleader.
Bob contributed greatly to his community by volunteering with the Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts, and 4-H. He was an honorary member of the FFA and was the best Santa Claus this community ever had. Bob was always willing to help anyone who needed it, locally or as a valued employee during his 25 years with Stahls.
On Nov 4, 1972 Bob married the former Linda Clunk and she survives him in Cardington. Bob is also survived by his children; Eric (Alicia) Mermann of
Lexington, Shannon (Alexandra) Mermann of Morrow and Robin (Terry) Elswick of Marengo; fifteen grandchildren: Brady, Lukas, Blake, Tyler, Emily, Brandon, Hank, Charlie, Kristopher, Savannah, Autumn, Summer, Hunter, Page, and Chase; a brother Richard (Sue) Mermann of Mt. Gilead and a sister Ruth Ann Counts of Waldo.
In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Mermann.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street, Cardington, OH 43315. The funeral will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 pm.
